Pssst... Barack... Jim Webb for Veep

Dear Senator Obama,

I know that you have been logging onto The Kalamazoo Post almost daily for the choice buzz, and while I've entertained the idea that you may be here for my take on Ozzie Guillen's latest rant/ ejection/ fine/ controversy/ call for firing from Jay Mariotti... I realize now that you have been looking for my pick for your running mate.

Sorry for the delay, but here it is: Jim Webb. If you are the The One, then I suppose he is the The Two. Besides, if he's okay with Fred, then he's okay with me. This election is about salvaging whatever credibility as a nation we have left so don't encumber your ticket with some slick politician. We are counting on you to make a good first decision, unlike Al Gore's in 2000-- gag.

See you at the Convention,
Tony

How about Clark instead of Webb - military experience, perhaps less controversy, doesn't remove a standing Dem from Congress.

Sure, Clark is a great guy. First in his class at the academy, Supreme Allied Commander in a theater of war, yada, yada, yada.

The beef I have with Clark is that he has never been elected to office. Who was the last VP to have never been elected to any office?

Webb is an ex-Republican, served in the Reagan WH, great war record, more of an Everyman to Obama's Ivy credentials. Solid citizen type whose kid served in Iraq.

How is Clark "less controversial?"

Removing a sitting Dem shouldn't matter. VA should stay Democratic.

Clark would be a fine choice as well, but as Fred said in his usual blunt manner, we don't need any retired general in arrested development.
